Half Moon Bay Sportfishing
Owned and managed by Bill and Peggy Beckett, we bring years of both sport and commercial fishing experience to our business. Located 25 miles south of San Francisco and 4 miles north of Half Moon Bay, Pillar Point Harbor is a full service marina with a six lane launch ramp, fuel dock, restaurants and a harbor master to assist you.
- Rockfishing Season for 2009 north of Pigeon Point is June 13 - October 31 in waters out to 180 feet.
- Humboldt squid, albacore fishing are seasonal
- Live bait fishing is based on bait availability.
WHALE WATCHING
Being conveniently located on the Whale Freeway has its advantages. Gray Whales can be seen most days during the season. The Southward migration, December through the middle of February, takes us offshore 10 - 15 miles. During this time, sightings of multiple whales is likely. When they are northward bound, mid February to April, we cruise much closer to the coast. During this time, there’s a possibility of seeing a mama and her newborn calf.Gray Whale Watching trips are generally three hours in length. and are scheduled regularly on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm from late December into April on a space available basis. Reservations are recommended.
ECO TOURS
During other times of the year there is an abundance of marine life available. Humpback and Blue Whales frequent the waters for the feed provided by the upwellings from offshore and can be seen often during the summer months from our boats. The Farallon Islands, 26 miles from Pillar Point Harbor is one of the largest seabird rookeries and tufted puffins, auklets, common murres, elephant seals and sealions are among some of the many species of life that may be observed on a trip to the Islands. Boats are available to groups for charter for nature/ecology trips by arrangement.
