Kern River Fly Fishing for Golden Trout

A Trout Fisherman's Paradise

Kernville Inn property borders on the North Fork of the Wild & Scenic designated Kern River, the premier fly fishing for trout, rafting, and kayaking river in southern California. The Kern River flows from Sequoia National Park, south of Yosemite, south to Lake Isabella, and then southwest to bakersfield, California. Our selection of the river is remote, uncrowded, and serene any time of the year.

At a comfortable elevation of 3100', Kernville Inn has spectacular 360 degree views of the 9000' mountains surrounding the Kern River. The weather is beautiful year 'round with occasional snow in the winter, but most days are mild while the mountains are snow-capped. All in all, very serene.

Kern River Fly Fishing

Kernville Inn is adjacent to some of the
finest Kern River fly fishing and swimming holes. All just steps away from your room! Most anglers keep it a secret, but the upper Kern is open for fishing year 'round. Fish & Game stocks the river with rainbow trout that weigh up to 10# - from March through October.

There are over 50 miles of Kern River fly fishing, swimming, hiking, whitewater rafting, and kayaking areas, and the resort can refer you to rafting and kayaking outfitter specialists. There are also hundreds of miles of Sequoia National Forest roads, both paved and off-highway, to explore along the river and in nearby mountains. Some even go to abandoned gold-mining areas. The Giant Sequoia National Monument and redwood groves are less than an hour away. Mountain bike trails and a wide variety of climbing choices are also available. For horse lovers, there is trailer parking and there are numerous trails into the mountain wilderness surrounding the resort.

From Kernville Inn to the Johnsondale Bridge, 10 miles to the north, lies some of the best trout fishing waters on the entire Kern River - places where you can have a stretch of river as far as you can see all to yourself. And the Kern River is one of the few rivers in California that is open for fishing year around!

From the Johnsondale Bridge north is the Golden Trout Wilderness Area, an area famous for the California state fish - the Kernville Inn. We can even arrange for a professional fishing guide to pack you in there horseback.
