Salt Water Fishing

British Columbia Salmon fishingMillions of migrating salmon go through the bottleneck of British Columbia's Inside Passage, and Blackfish Lodge is situated to take full advantage of the presence of these fish. Trolling is the method of choice, and guests at Blackfish Lodge consistently catch more and bigger salmon than any other lodge in the area. Our area is also home to some excellent BC halibut fishing some spots are within just a few minutes of the lodge.

Equipment

Blackfish Lodge has one 21' Grady White and two 19', open, "Boston Whaler" type boats. Each boat is fully equipped with GPS, downrigger gear, depth sounders, and quiet, smokeless 4-cycle trolling motors. Personal flotation devices are provided for all guests. The lodge has standard BC salmon fishing and halibut gear for all guests. Our typical setup is a 9' mooching rod with a single action (a.k.a. knucklebuster) reel. All licenses, use of any tackle, and fuel are included in our rates.

British Columbia Wilderness Fly Fishing

British Columbia Fly FishingYour British Columbia wilderness fly fishing trip will be full of variety. Our fishing spots are located from a 10-50 minute boat ride from the lodge. Some of these locations require short to moderate hikes, so guests should have the appropriate physical mobility necessary to reach these locations. Blackfish Lodge is licensed and insured for all freshwater fishing.

Saltwater Fly-Fishing

Saltwater fly-fishing for sea run cutthroats and salmon is becoming a popular part of the fly angler's repertoire. Fishing the estuaries and rock piles for cutts can stir up some non-stop action. The estuaries can also produce some excellent fishing for silvers waiting to enter the streams. Further, silvers can be fished in other saltwater areas around kelp beds and tidal rips.

Equipment

For our guests use, we feature fly rods and reels from G.loomis. However, we do find that most fly fishermen prefer to bring their own gear. Blackfish Lodge has 19', open, "Boston Whaler" type boats. Each boat is fully equipped with GPS, downrigger gear, depth sounders, and quiet, smokeless 4-cycle trolling motors. Personal floatation devices are provided for all guests. With the exception of the supplemental license to fish the Wakeman River, all licenses, use of any tackle, and fuel are included in our rates.

Spinning & Casting

All of our streams, rivers, and lakes are fishable using spinning and/or casting gear. Steelhead fishing, trout fishing, salmon fishing, and dolly varden fishing are all very productive. All fish respond extremely well to a cast lure. Equipped with single, barbless hooks, different varieties of spinners and spoons can provide incredible action.

Canadian Wilderness Fishing Lodge Accommodation

In 1988, Chris Bennett decided to fulfill the dream of owning his own British Columbia fishing lodge. For folks wanting a great Canada fishing lodge vacation, he designed and built a solid floating structure that would provide a cozy, personal, and comfortable place for his guests to visit.

Testimonial

"Wow! How do I begin to attempt describing the most fantastic fishing trip I have ever been on. I guess, first is by saying thanks. Without your help in setting this up, we could not have enjoyed the fantastic time we had. I guess you have already heard from my uncle that we caught the fish of a lifetime....believe me, the smiles I saw on his face were worth a million bucks.

Beautiful weather, great fishing, eagles, bears, whales, seals, porpoises, incredible scenery, and wonderful cooking (which oh by the way is causing me to do some drastic dieting this week)!!!
All in all, we each limited out on the Kings, caught and released numerous 12-13 lb Cohos, and had a blast fly-fishing for trout with flies we tied the night before... one of them on the first cast of the day with a fly that I tied! I also caught a 38 lb Ling cod that I hooked within 30 seconds (no lie) of dropping the lure to the bottom. On the last morning of the trip, I hooked into a monster halibut that snapped 100lb test line and busted the handle off a reel.....It would have taken us all day to reel him in. My next trip I will have to prepare with some weight training!!!!! This has indeed been the trip I have always dreamed about. Like McArthur said, I shall return. "
