Incredible Dry Fly Fishing beginning in mid June with an exceptional Golden Stonefly & Caddis hatch.
Join us at Northern Lights Lodge for exciting dry fly fishing on up to four different rivers that are so diverse and beautiful you will think you are in a different part of the world each time!
The Mitchell River, Quesnel River, Horsefly River, Cariboo River, Quesnel Lake and the surrounding waters are home to a unique strain of large, aggressive wild native Rainbow Trout and huge Bull Trout. This unique strain of Girard Rainbow Trout do not spawn until they are seven years old, do not go through the stress of spawning for all these years & do nothing but grow during this period.
Why our Rainbow & Bull Trout are among the largest of their species in the world.

The spawning Sockeye & King Salmon that enter this watershed every year release nutrients that not only attract a large number of large trout but also a variety of BC wildlife such as Grizzly & Black Bears to tiny Weasels & every native carnivore in between. While Eagles are prevalent all year, guests visiting in September & October are generally awestruck by the dozens upon dozens of these magnificent birds observed daily feeding on the expired Salmon that have completed their life cycle.
Let our professional guides introduce you to spectacular guided dry fly fishing and later in the season egg pattern & streamer fishing on the Mitchell River, Horsefly River, Quesnel River, and Cariboo River. Your guided river fly fishing adventure will excite you & challenge your skills as you pursue these trophy Rainbow Trout in a pristine British Columbia setting that rates second to none. In addition to these fantastic Rainbow Trout, be prepared to get into your backing as our guides expose you to the challenge of trying to land a large Bull Trout amongst the Salmon that are completing their amazing life cycle in the rivers of this ecosystem.
Quesnel River and Cariboo River Guided Fly Fishing
Between mid-June and mid-October, our professional guides focus on four magnificent rivers that produce some of the finest Rainbow Trout fly-fishing on the planet - The Horsefly River, Cariboo River, Quesnel River and Mitchell River.
The Horsefly and Quesnel Rivers both produce a beautiful bright colored rainbow trout that reach up to 28 inches long however we have a lodge record of a 33 inch rainbow on the Horsefly River. What a HOG!!
The Cariboo River produces Rainbow Trout up to 18 inches, and, being a glacial water body, it also offers Bull Trout that will get into the mid 30 inch range. One can experience catching wild native British Columbian Rainbow Trout that have never been caught before. This is guided fly-fishing in its purest form. Another experience that is hard to find... you will likely not see another fisher on our waters as Northern Lights is the only fly fishing lodge in the area & holds over 70% of the licensed rod days in this 2,000,0000+ acre watershed.

In late July, we begin fishing the incredible Mitchell River which is home to some of the largest most aggressive Rainbow Trout in the world. This is a "clear" glacial river that produces very large Bull Trout as well in a setting that is second to none in the world. A six to eight weight Rod with zero X tippet is highly recommended & you will still have many of your hooked fish... well... just leave. (if you don't have a rod that large, we do have loaners)
If you are looking for large numbers of large fish, enjoy fishing egg patterns & streamers behind spawning salmon versus dry fly fishing, Sept & early Oct. is the time for you. Plenty of hook-ups, an abundance of wildlife and a wonderful experience you will not forget. As one of our great guides, Gord Elliot says " The Mitchell River....It just ruins ya"
