Skeena River fly fishing lodge for Steelhead and Salmon in Northern BC
Skeena River Fly Fishing Lodge Northern British Columbia, Canada Our Coastal Mountain valleys provide us with an unlimited availability fly fishing on the Skeena River and it's tributaries. With help from the North Pacific Ocean, year round runs of Salmon, Steelhead and Trout come to our rivers. Combined, these runs of WILD fish are the largest on Earth.
Spey Lodge is strategically situated on the Banks of the Skeena River, east of Terrace BC. Minutes from the Copper River. The fishing lodge is in close proximity to many of the lower tributaries of the Skeena, and many rivers that flow directly into the ocean on their own. We are located on the lower Skeena area to intercept bright fish in the early stages of their migrations. We are only at 250ft elevation as opposed to the upper tributaries of the Skeena averaging at approx. 1500 - 2000ft. Spey Lodge is also only 15 minutes away from the Terrace airport where small commercial jets fly our guests in from Vancouver BC.
Don't be fooled by the alternatives! Do your homework before booking your Skeena river fly fishing trip! On the water you'll be with professional Skeena River fly fishing guides, which include your host, Wally Faetz. Our guides do not fish while guiding so you will receive the ultimate guided experience! We only cater to 2 guests per guide unless requested otherwise. We enjoy catering to both the amateur and experienced fly-fishers and can teach both many skills to provide the ultimate fly-fishing experience in the Northwest.

All Inclusive Guided Skeena River Fly Fishing Spey Lodge takes the meaning of "all-inclusive" very seriously. From the moment you arrive to the time you depart EVERYTHING (except alcohol) is provided in our all-inclusive price. Whether it's flies, tippet, Spey rods, or wine at dinner; we supply it. (We let you keep the flies but you will have to return the Spey ROD!!) The basic all-inclusive package is a five day six nights, but we can customize the duration of any package to suit your needs. FIVE DAY, SIX NIGHT PACKAGE
Spey Lodge has maximum capacity of six anglers with private room and bathrooms along with a large lounge, dining room and all other necessary amenities. Although we have the capability to accommodate twelve anglers at a time we usually cater to small groups, couples and single anglers. The lodge entertains guests from early April to late November. The best time to come to Spey Lodge is relative to the angler's goals. Our target species and rivers vary from month to month, but our techniques stay relatively the same; generally we swing wet flies with floating lines and light wet tips or we skate dry flies. We of course specialize in the use of Spey rods (two handed fly rods). A single-handed eight-weight rod will work just fine most of the time, but with the Salmon often exceeding thirty pounds and the Steelhead sometimes exceeding twenty pounds the risk of being under gunned is always there. The Spey rod balances the odds in your favor; slightly, but on occasion even a 15 foot 9 weight seems small. A Salmon or Steelhead making a 15-foot rod seem small is reality at Spey Lodge.
We look forward to providing you with on the water lessons in all aspects of Spey Casting. Lessons in casting (Spey or Single) are part of the all-inclusive package.
MARCH 15 - JUNE 01
Skeena River Steelhead Fishing
During this time period we fish many different coastal streams as well as the Copper, Kalum, Kitimat and main stem of the Skeena River. The Steelhead and Trout fishing is great from the beginning, and by early May the Spring Salmon (Kings) are in many of the larger rivers. Spring Steelhead and Trout can be found in literally hundreds of small rivers and streams all along coastal British Columbia. These streams generally have less than twenty miles of flow from source to sea. It is very common for Spey Lodge guests to find themselves exploring two or three of these remarkable little fisheries on the same day, via jet boat or whitewater raft. Hooking a small stream Steelhead on a single-handed rod 100 yards upstream from the ocean is incredible; and should be experienced by all!
Late March can see a small run of wild spring Steelhead in the Copper River, which can be untouchable when timed right. This fishing can go until late April. Although only the bottom section of the Copper is open to fishing in the spring there are plenty of fly friendly pools to fish. Floating this river can make for an amazing day just minutes from the Lodge. The Copper is renown for being one of the nicest flyfishing rivers with some of the most aggressive Steelhead on the Planet! It's almost like flyfishing was designed around the Copper because they fit so well J The Copper has limited guiding allocation, allowing only 4 guides to operate on it.
End of April - AUGUST 1 Skeena River Salmon Fishing With an incredible amount of water to fish in June and July, the toughest part of fishing here is deciding where to go! During the summer season our primary target species is the King Salmon, averaging 22 pounds with fish exceeding 40 ! The days are long and eventful, and quite often we fish a split day; morning and evening. Hopping in the jet boat behind the Skeena River Fishing Lodge and running the Skeena in search of runs of fish is an incredible way to spend the day. Floating or jet boating the tributaries and swinging wet flies to these giant fish is incredible. JULY 15 - SEPTEMBER 15 Skeena River Steelhead Fishing Late July is the beginning of our summer run Steelhead season! Simply put, there is no greater place to be in the world if your interest is to rise giant migratory Trout to dry flies and skating bugs! Spey Lodge guests enjoy guided trips to the most limited guided Steelhead fishing on the Skeena watershed, for chrome Steelhead that show up as early as the first week of July. These along with chrome Kings & early Coho Salmon make August hard to beat in the Skeena area. Fall Steelhead Fishing at Boundary Lodge September 01 - November 01 Nestled amongst the white peaked mountains of Northern British Columbia, Canada lies a small fishing lodge known as Boundary. Beside this lodge flows an untamed wilderness river teaming with Wild Steelhead. Boundary Lodge is a remote exclusive Steelhead Lodge catering to a maximum of six rods per week from September through November. The location of the lodge offers the angler unparalleled access to the entire length of the Bell-Irving River. Boundary's four home pools are, without a doubt; some of the finest Steelhead water that British Columbia has to offer. The Lodge itself was designed for the sole purpose of providing everything a fly angler would need during his/her stay. Four staff easily cater to the six guests needs, providing everything from special dietary needs to a firm hand shake after you release your Steelhead! No tie required here! The Boundary experience is casual, comfortable and friendly. Few anglers ever experience fishing the Nass River; it is rugged, deceiving, often glacial and simply hard to understand. This is a watershed full of treasure awaiting the angler that has the heart to find it. Spey Lodge has an outpost camp in the heart of some of the best fishing on the Nass watershed and offers the same all-inclusive packages for it in September & October. With jet boat access only our knowledgeable guides will put you on some of the greatest water for Steelhead in the fall months. Relax in excellent accommodations nightly under the northern lights along the river. While fishing, expect to see wildlife including moose, bears, possibly wolverines and even a slight chance of a mountain goat walking along your pool! Limited space is offered for this trip so do not delay in booking if you have any interest for this experience. Late Fall Steelhead Fishing Copper River OCTOBER 01 - DECEMBER 01 The last of our many options for excellent Steelhead throughout the year is our November Steelhead time slots on the Copper River. Steelhead enter the Copper River from Mid July to January. In November the river provides an excellent opportunity for the fly angler with great numbers of fish willing to take your fly! By November the leaves have fallen, the mountaintops are whitening, and many Steelhead are stacked and holding in the pools of the upper Copper River. Although the mornings can be cool, and the days are getting shorter; the hookup (of Steelhead) per angler ratio is at a yearly high. Steelhead have been migrating continuously since August, and are still entering the river. Therefore you will catch a mixed bag of bright fish to red striped giant rainbow looking Steelhead. Floating lines and wet flies are all that is required while rafting two to four miles of fly-friendly water each day.
