Canavieras Brazil Fishing Charters

Brazil's virgin waters immediately captures the imagination of the entire sportfishing world. The discovery of spectacular marlin action in Brazil did just that, and already anglers are applauding the incredible size and the numbers of fish found in this new destination.

In recent times, only Guatemala's billfishing has caused as much excitement as Brazil. Artmarina pioneered charter fishing there, so it should come as no surprise that we are also the first to offer world class big-game angling in Canavieiras, the heart or Brazil's finest blue marlin fishing.

Artmarina's first few seasons in Brazil have produced great numbers of billfish releases and a host of overjoyed anglers. We've raised as many as 20 billfish in a full day charter, adding white marlin and sailfish to the blue marlin, which are really the area's top feature. And we've recorded as many as thirteen blues from 200 to 600 pounds, behind the boat in a single day, so we know the blues are plentiful here.

Of course, the worlds all tackle IGFA Atlantic blue marlin, a 1,402 pound monster, was caught in Brazil only a few hundred miles away. We've had several close encounters with fish bordering 1,000 pounds, and having let go a few of more than 750 pounds, we know Brazilian blues can also be BIG.

Fishing in Canavierias

Several years of exploring the offshore waters of the state of Bahia between Salvador and Vitoria coupled with other research has revealed a billfishing season that spans from October through the beginning of March. Three to five blue marlin strikes per day have been encountered through mid-February and for the following month the numbers are less but the size of these fish skyrockets. 80% of the blues are between 300 and 600 pounds with most of the others on the larger size. Two or three fish above 700 pounds are usually seen each month. Strikes from white marlin (often surpassing 100 pounds) and sailfish can often add up to a "dozen a day" shots at big billfish.

The Royal Charlotte Bank, a submerged plateau that runs 50 miles off the coast causes extensive upwelling on its northern up-current edge. This attracts huge concentrations of bait and consequently the big game species. The Bank’s steps or drops, beginning from 50 fathoms, hold the speedy wahoo, acrobatic dorado and tenacious tunas all of which grow here to all tackle record dimensions. The months of October through mid-January tend to offer the best numbers of these pelagic non-billfish species which are included in an offshore fishery that is almost entirely untapped! Fly as well as conventional tackle fishing folks in search of record fish are very likely to find just what they’re looking for in the these waters

Canavieiras offers the nearest port from which to access this edge. The closest drop at the bank’s beginning edge is only a 16 mile run but we have found the best fishing to begin at about a 25 mile distance. The waters passing over the Royal Charlotte Bank are some of the clearest and most azure in the world. Calmer seas than those of Vitoria to the south during its season make for a relatively comfortable commute.

Lodging

Artmarina Brazil is dedication to luxury accommodations is nowhere more evident than in its newly redecorated private house located in a quiet residential area of the city of Canavieiras, a safe and relaxed city of 25,000 residents.

The ambiance of this town is very reminiscent of Cairns, Australia back in the 70's with some great local shopping and some absolutely excellent restaurants all within walking distance. The house holds four air-condition bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. The living room has a complete stereo system and satellite TV. A full wet bar area is located on the second story outdoor patio and is the spot for exchanging replays of the day's fishing experiences. The house's dining room adjoins a large kitchen with all the latest appliances including a washer-dryer.

The house is staffed by a bi-lingual driver and cook who will gladly prepare your bidding for breakfast and dinner. If you choose to dine out, you are totally safe to walk or the staff will chauffeur you to your desired restaurant. Artmarina's dock where both Coyotes are tied is a short 5 block walk to the city's river front but the van is always available should you prefer it. Besides its being safe, Canavieiras' carnival week in February is full fledged celebration. Its week-end festas (parties) are great fun as well.
