In 2002 Captain Rans landed a 906lb blue marlin and in 2003 Overproof was 4th (the top Bermuda boat) in the annual Bermuda Big Game Classic. The Boat

Overproof is a 40 foot Island Boatworks Express Sportfishing boat. She was completely refitted and repowered in 1999. Overproof is FAST and comfortable. She is a Custom Carolina designed vessel, handles the seas well and cruises at 32 knots. This makes her one of the fastest charter boats on the island. We can get you out to the fishing grounds in less than a 1/2 hour so that you can have maximum fishing time. In addition to an experienced captain, the other advantage you will have over the fish is the latest in deep sea fishing electronics and top shelf tackle. You will fish in comfort and style in her roomy air-conditioned cabin.

The catch

Peter Rans is the owner and captain of Overproof. He has been fishing in Bermuda since he was a young boy and is extremely knowledgeable and successful when it comes to fishing in our waters. Peter has also fished in the Bahamas, Costa Rica and the Southeast U.S.

Peter's professional fishing started on the original Overproof which is a 31foot JC. On this small boat Peter was able to compete at the same level as the larger boats in Bermuda's charter fleet and visiting international boats. In 2002, Peter caught the largest blue marlin (906 lbs) and the largest wahoo (102 lbs) of the season.

Over the last few years our 'banks' have attracted more and more international sport fishing boats who keep returning for exciting marlin, wahoo and tuna fishing. Our season normally runs from April to November. April and May bring great wahoo and yellow fin tuna, with June to August being the hottest blue marlin fishing. In September to November there are a lot of wahoo to be caught. The other months our weather can be iffy, but there are some beautiful days and still good fishing.

"We do not recommend 1/2 day charters in order to enjoy the full fishing experience." All packages include beer/soda/water. Most hotels will provide boxed lunches for you, or we do have catering available upon request.

Other things to note:
A 50% deposit is required at time of booking. Overproof Charter Fishing has the right to cancel the trip due to unfavourable weather conditions in this case your trip can be rebooked or we will refund your deposit. If you need to cancel your trip you must give 30 days advance notice to receive a refund of your deposit.
It is customary to tip the mate at the end of the day based on your satisfaction of his service.
The "catch" is usually the property of the Captain, however, Peter will give some fish to the charter to take home and enjoy a fresh fish dinner.
