IOU is a purpose built 36 ft. Sports Fisherman, she has full toilet facilities, a large sundeck, spacious cockpit with sun awning and plenty of seating both in the cockpit and up on the flybridge. We encourage your participation by involving you in re-baiting the lines, steering the vessel and coming up to the bridge where the navigational instruments are explained to you. Last Sept/Oct IOU underwent a major refit - two new Perkins/Sabre 225 HP twin turbo diesel engines and gearboxes were fitted and her entire interior was refurbished.

Captain and Owners

IOU is Captained and crewed by it's British owners Martyn & Angie who are now Bajan residents. Angie has many years of catering experience after owning a country hotel in Cornwall, U.K. which ensures that you are well looked after and provided with some of the best snacks afloat. These always include freshly made cutters and a wide selection of drinks. We offer snacks even on our 4 hour charters. Martyn has been at sea earning a living from charter and commercial fishing since he was 18. Now at 61 years of age he can claim over 43 years of seagoing eperience and has Captained commercial fishing vessels up to 65 ft. Martin is also a very experienced marine engineer, which results in IOU being maintained to the very highest standard.

The fishing season in Barbados runs from December to April when all the main species such as Wahoo, Dorado, White and Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Yellow and Black fin Tuna are available. The Marlin pass the island in September/October when there is a small run of these fish but if you are seriously after Marlin, the best months are February, March and April.

Some Wahoo, Barracuda, Dolphin, Marlin and Sailfish are in our waters all year. The Tuna are usually caught in the winter months. It is our policy to tag and release all billfish, but we will kill an occasional fish that is considered to have a very poor chance of survival. Most tropical species of shark are also available year round.

We have over 400 feet of water within three quarters of a mile of the shore, so very little time is lost steaming to distant waters, the 1,500 feet contour is as close as 3 miles! We have one major offshore structure which rises from over 600 feet to 140 feet which provides most species and is only 15 minutes from port. We fish mainly the south and west coasts as these have deep structure close inshore. The West Coast is always protected from the prevailing easterly trade winds and is ideal for those with poor sea legs.

Fishing Expertise

This is where we feel we really stand alone both Martyn and Angie are accomplished anglers, Angie has fished in Australia, the Far East, South Africa and the U.K. for a wide range of species. Martyn has fished since he was 10 - over 50 years ago and has caught everything from specimen trout and salmon to big sharks in the English Channel.

During this lifetime of angling Martyn was a well known angling and commercial fishing journalist contributing to all the major U.K. and commercial fishing press. He has been a fishing consultant to several U.K. Government Departments and U.K. television.

This lifetime background of having to find fish both for a living and sport gives you the best possible chance of catching your fish of a lifetime aboard IOU.

The TackleBarabados Big Game Fishing Charter

Most of our fishing is trolling using outriggers and downriggers with well tried and tested lures incorporating deadbaits, we sometimes drift with live baits. Reef fishing can be arranged but we do require prior notice to arrange bait and special anchors.

We use short, stand up rods, which allow you to handle big fish easily, lines are 50 to 80 lbs and we have just re-equipped with Okuma 50W graphite lever drag reels. We use wind on leaders so you can play a big fish right to the boat.

Barbados Accommodation

We bought Hope Park almost 2 years ago as a derelict house with 4 acres of well overgrown land and have transformed it into a beautiful home we would love to offer you and stay either in the main house or the self catering apartment.

We did this mainly to provide accommodation for our fishing friends but it seems not only the fishing folks want somewhere cool and quiet in the country to stay but also a lot of poeple who want somewhere different.

We have added a large saltwater pool which has a rockery waterfall cascading into the pool and the plants are now starting to gain maturity which have been planted in the rockery. The saltwater is great compared to a chlorine pool and it leaves your skin feeling soft and silky, your hair doesnt turn green, your eyes red and your swimwear retains its new colours.

We have had many years experience having a self catering holiday cottage and a bread and breakfast business in Cornwall in the U.K.

We welcome all of you who would like a taste of living on a property in quiet and serene countryside.
