Bahamas Bonefishing Lodges

Bahamas Fly FishingSpread across 500 miles of warm blue ocean, hundreds of little islands lie shimmering in the sun. Seasons mean little here. On an average day the sun rises from the deep blue of the Atlantic to awaken the mockingbirds, herons, and village roosters. It spreads a golden mantle across the palms and beaches, over the little fishing villages, and falls finally on mile after mile of gleaming sand tidal flats. Bonefish begin their daily prowl for a snack, and the snack seeks the shelter of a burrow. So begins another day in paradise...

Buccaneer Travel is ready to take you there...

To remote islands that are among the world's top bonefishing and sportfishing destinations. In the 1600s and 1700s, native West Indians and a few pirates called these quiet islands in the Bahamas home. Their protected harbors, treacherous coral shoals, endless miles of tidal flats, and sheer remoteness kept the outside world away for centuries.

It hasn't changed much. There still are no high-rise beachfront resorts, no discos, no jet-skis, no banks, no casinos, and no industry. Just some of the best bonefishing in the world.

Like the idea of being one of only 6 or 8 anglers in a vast wilderness? Tired of rubbing elbows with the masses at the "assembly-line fishing factories"? As you go through the individual destinations, you'll get the idea that our trips are less expensive than others' are. That's the way we like to do things: better fishing; lower prices; no crowds. We gladly customize any trip; shorter, longer, two or three islands in one vacation are no problem.

Acklins Island

Acklins Island FishingA new small guesthouse on the beach immediately adjacent to the bonefish flats. Acklins is a quiet island, with few people, and vast spaces of superb bonefish habitat. The flats are some of the best wading anywhere, and the fish are above-average in size.
Top Choice Lodge is a new place with all the comforts, cheerful local owners and managers, well-trained, eager guides, and new shallow-draft skiffs. This is a great place for those who love solitude, but don't want to sacrifice comforts for excellent fishing.

We're fishing the west side of Acklins here, so there are moderate tides, wind protection, and many areas that are completely untouched. Bonefish from 4 to 6 pounds abound here, and there are quite enough permit, jacks, barracuda, and other species to keep things interesting.

Don't go to Acklins expecting extensive tourist services. The population here is roughly 300 souls. If you're looking for nightlife, better go to Nassau or Freeport. If, however, you're on a quest for a place to fish all week without seeing another boat, this is your bell ringing.

Weekly packages of 7 nights with meals, and 6 days of guided fishing are $2,150.

Crooked Island

Crooked Island FishingCC A perennial favorite since we introduced it in 1993, this place continues to earn very high customer satisfaction. It's a beautiful island with fine beaches, excellent snorkeling and diving, vast expanses of clean flats loaded with bonefish, and some of the best offshore fishing in the hemisphere.

If you're looking for privacy, try
Scavella's Guesthouse in the village of Landrail Point. It's a big old house, fully modernized, with kitchen and bath facilities. Nice for families, and groups of up to 4, it provides the kind of integration into native island life that many seek.

Two flats boats with excellent guides; local dining. Be part of an island community for a while:
$2,250 per week with meals, double occupancy with 6 days of guided bonefishing. Diving, too.

South Andros

This destination offers the best of what this large group of wetland islands are famous for--large bonefish; vast spaces, endless stretches of flats; few people.

South Andros FishingThese sheltered areas offer excellent opportunities for wading on hard sand flats or fishing from modern island-built skiffs. On any tide your guide will put you on an intercept with single, double and schools of bonefish.

Along the beaches there is fast fishing for permit, jacks, grouper, snapper, sharks and barracuda with fly or spinning gear. Barracuda up to 5 feet will challenge your nerve and arms with fast, slashing strikes and wild acrobatic displays.

If you like
BIG fish--the offshore stuff --we will be glad to set you up to challenge sailfish, tuna and other offshore monsters.

Try the wilderness fishing that earned Andros' reputation, at prices that put the world's best saltwater fishing within almost everyone's budget. Take a trip with Buccaneers to wild and remote South Andros, Bahamas.

We've two different categories of accommodation here: one basic, geared to the serious angler with no one else to please and one deluxe: serious angling, but serious comforts, too. For hard-core anglers seeking a wilderness to lose themselves in for a week (or two or three), there's the
Glatos Bonefish Lodge, at Kemp's Bay. Fancy it's not, but the beaches are inviting, soft breezes rustle the palms and the comforts are adequate. Your guides are the best in the Bahamas - men with centuries of combined experience, and excellent equipment. Your hosts are ready to serve you with a smile and a friendly word.

Weekly packages of 7 nights and 6 days guided fishing: $2,350 per person; double occupancy.

Hidden away in the palms on a dazzling white-sand beach, the
Emerald Palms is deluxe in every sense. It's the newly-remodelled Emerald Palms, with new management and new features, including the full range of beach toys, diving, snorkeling, and fishing both in the nearby South Bight, and offshore.

Fully-guided packages for 7 nights with meals, and 6 days guided: $3,150.

Long Island

Deadman's Cay. A hundred-square-mile laguna of Long Island Fishingcrystalline shallow water and fine smooth white sand flats; this is the place for anglers who love to wade. It's a protected area on the lee side of Long Island, with hundreds of large and small flats. You could fish here a month, and still not see more than a fraction of the habitat.

The guest house accommodates up to 10 anglers, and is situated directly overlooking the miles of flats on the east (lee) side of the island. The individual a/c units are small apartments; with kitchenette, sitter, bedroom, and private bath. Dining is inside or outside on a covered patio. Like our other places in the Bahamas, it is lovingly owner-operated by local folks who love company, enjoy cooking native dishes, and will tailor the schedule to accommodate your comfort and pleasure.

Bonefish rule here, but you'll also see (and hopefully catch) small tarpon, jacks, barracuda, and snapper. Guides Ivan Knowles, his sons Elvis and Dwayne, and cousin Champ, are experts on flyfishing the area. They're equipped with Rahming Bonefishers, with 40 Hp Mercury Sea-Pro outboards. Don't hesitate to explore on your own in the off hours, either. There are miles of wade-friendly flats right outside the door of your room.

It's budget-priced, but you'll love the hospitality, the fishing, and the comforts. Very favorably reviewed in The Angling Report, and elsewhere.

Priced at $1,995 per week for 7 nights with meals, and 6 days of guided bonefishing
