Malleo River Fly Fishing Lodge San Martín de los Andes Patagonia

San Huberto, the classic guesthouse located north of Junín and San Martín de los Andes towns, belongs to an old cattle-farming ranch that was created in 1890, eight years before the foundation of San Martín de los Andes. The present-day descendants of the pioneer family that founded the ranch have kept up the old farming tradition, and added other typically Patagonian activities such as sport fishing, bird and wildlife watching and horseback riding.
There are exceptional opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities here. Many years ago, when the area was wilder and more inhospitable, the Olsen family began to provide lodging for travelers who needed a safe place to spend the night. Adventurers roaming the area in search of a good hunting or fishing trophy also used to gather round the family fireplace.
 Malleo River Fly Fishing Lodge
In the mid-70s, the guesthouse was built. At first it was only used by the deer hunters who dared to roam the vicinity, but as time went by, it became the most distinguished fishing lodge in the area. As well as offering first-class amenities, it is located on the Malleo River, one of the most renowned fly-fishing destinations in Patagonia.
Perfect for fishing, the winding Malleo carries crystal-clear, easy to wade water. An ancient Patagonian sentinel, the river has long enjoyed a highly respected catch-and-release policy and earned a well-deserved reputation as a first-class fishing site. Guests have access to the upper course of this great river, and can enjoy a different site every time they go fishing, even if they stay for a whole week.
Malleo River Fly Fishing

San Huberto is set on the shores of the pleasant waters on the upper course of the famous Malleo River. Its tended gardens gradually give way to the wilder surroundings that the river flows through.
All our angler guests need to do to see the river winding through the steppe is pick up their rods and stroll out a few yards. The Malleo is magnificent for anyone particularly fond of subtle fishing.

Fly fishing experts are delighted by the impressive range of environments along the Malleo River, particularly along this stretch, where lively runs and green pools alternate with smooth, glassy stretches. According to the overall characteristics of the river, the ideal techniques here are dry fly and nymph fishing, basically using light gear.
Fly fishing specialists who have made themselves at home at San Huberto particularly recommend Royal Wolff, Parachute Adams, Adams, red, yellow and green Humpies and Elk Hair Caddis. The best nymphs are Pheasant Tail, Hare’s Ear, Zug Bug and Bead Head Prince.
Just a few minutes away from the lodge, enjoy different environments such as Lake Tromen, where you can fish from a boat, or larger rivers such as the Aluminé or the Collón Cura, which are usually floated.
