Sea Otter Sound Fishing Lodge

Sea Otter Sound Lodge is a premier floating fly-in fishing lodge. In 2006 we were chosen by Alaska Magazine as the destination for mid level pricing in fly-in fishing lodges. Our guests describe our lodge as “magical” and “…this is what I dreamed Alaska would be”. We are located 100 miles by float plane from Ketchikan in an isolated cove on the north side of Heceta Island in Sea Otter Sound.

Our main lodge is finished in the richness of warm local cedar. Relax on our soft leather recliners as you enjoy the magnificent views of humpback whales blowing in the distance.

Meals at Sea Otter Sound Lodge are served family style. You will not go away from the dinner table hungry! We feature the bounty of the sea with sweet Dungeness Crab, Halibut Olympia, Silver Salmon fillets seasoned lightly then grilled over an open fire & steamer clams. One night we will throw some steaks on the grill for the steak lovers. All meals are served with home made salads, bread and desserts! Fishing, feasting and pampering. What more could you want?

Sea Otter Sound Fishing

In the remote Alaskan waters of Sea Otter Sound, we offer self guided fishing for the adventurous independent angler, guided fishing in the waters of the Pacific Ocean or stream and lake fishing on the uninhabited islands that dot Sea Otter Sound.

Monster Halibut, Ling Cod, King Salmon, Silver Salmon, Pink Salmon, Red Snapper or Trout, our goal is to give you the fish catching adventure of a lifetime. We will tailor a package that fits your fishing abilities and preference.

Guided Fishing

Can you imagine…a short 30 minute boat ride to some of the most productive fishing grounds in Alaska? Sea Otter Sound Lodge is the envy of other lodges. We are blessed to have proximity to superb salmon, ling cod and halibut fishing that other lodges dream of having. Our fishermen spend more time fishing, not traveling.

Hop on board with some of the best guides in Alaska and go for the Big Ones! Our boats are large and comfortable. We limit the boat to just 4 fishermen to give you more room on the back deck to bring in your fish. We use top of the line fishing gear and tackle. Avet & Shimano reels, Lamiglas rods, spectra line for the halibut, McCoy tournament line for salmon and Gamakatsu hooks. Our skippers will have on board the hot lures for the bite. Our lodge staff will pack you a homemade box lunch with coffee and soft drink and on your return will process, vacuum pack and freeze your catch.

This trip may be a yearly fishing trip or a one time trip of a lifetime. The owners and the staff work hard to make sure that everybody is treated as if this was their trip of a lifetime. We want the fond memories of your visit to Sea Otter Sound Lodge to last not just a year, but a lifetime.

Self Guided Fishing

Without a doubt, this is one of our most popular packages! Designed for both the experienced angler and the novice, this is what our guests return year after year for. Imagine fishing without anyone else around except your fellow lodge guests. Humpback whales and eagles are your companions. The silver salmon bite is fast and furious. Before you know it, both you and your fishing partner are limited out with your 6 silvers apiece. Take them back to the lodge for processing, maybe a short nap, then back out for Ling Cod and Halibut! This is Sea Otter Sound magic!

Our boats are top of the line JetCraft deep water boats. Each is 18’ with a forward helm and electric start. Fishfinders show you where the fish are, VHF radios keep you in touch with your fellow fishermen and the lodge, half canvas keeps you dry during the S.E. Alaska rain. We equip you with the best in fishing tackle and gear. Lamiglas rods, Penn 320 GT reels, McCoy tournament line, hand tied Gamakatsu leaders, Hot spot flashers, Abe & Al dodgers frozen herring and the most productive lures for the bite. When you return to the lodge, your catch is processed by our staff in vacuum bags, and frozen. Your boat is restocked with leaders, cleaned and re-fueled for you next day’s fishing adventure!

Accommodations

Your comfort is very important to us. We are open to opinions, but we believe that we have the most comfortable and tastefully furnished rooms found in Alaskan fly-in fishing lodges. The owners and our staff believe that you deserve the best in accommodations and service. Our return rate of 90% + tells us that we are on the right track.
We accommodate 16 guests. 6 of our rooms are new within 2006 & 2007. Our other 2 rooms are slightly smaller and feature desert cedar bunk beds, berber carpet & knotty pine wainscoat. All rooms have a private bathroom.

Your Hosts

Tim & Murtie Comer have been Alaskan residents for 25 years. Murtie grew up in West Texas where she learned the art of Southern Hospitality and good home cooking. Guests are treated like family and dine on hearty meals of Halibut Olympia, "Murtie Style", grilled salmon, Dungeness Crab, steamer clams, grilled New York steak and other homestyle meals including big breakfasts to keep anglers fishing all day. Tim grew up in the Pacific Northwest and has been an avid fisherman most of his life. He's been halibut and salmon fishing the salt waters and fresh waters of Alaska for almost 25 years and welcomes the opportunity to share his fishing knowledge and apply it to these remote local waters.

Location

We are located in the Alaska Panhandle, an hour and a half flight north of Seattle on Alaska Airlines.

Your stay with us will include one night's stay in Ketchikan at the new Narrows Inn. Also a one hour float plane flight out to the lodge. The float plane will bring you to our doorstep on the North side of Heceta Island in beautiful Sea Otter Sound. The scenic float plane flight will be one of the highlights of your trip!
