About Us

Your captain is Steven Eggemeyer, a commercial fisherman born and raised in Kodiak.

The Eggemeyer heritage dates back to the late 1800s, when Steve's great-grandfather Jack Blinn and his partner, P.D. Blodgett built the first cannery here, named Kadiak Fisheries. His great-great-grandfather, William Fisher, was a tidal recorder and collector, who submitted specimens from Kodiak's Alutiiq heritage to the Smithsonian Institute at a time when Alaska was America's newest acquisition.

Steve has more than 30 years experience in commercial fishing in Alaska, including thirteen years crab fishing in the Bering Sea, (much like the guys on the "Deadliest Catch" series). He has both commercial and sport-fished many of the species available in Kodiak: halibut, salmon, cod, tanner crab & more. Seasonally, Steve fishes Bristol Bay for sockeye with the F/V Emerald Sea.

He has 100-ton Master's License, navigational experience and is U.S.C.G safety certified.

Kodiak Island Fishing Boat Emerald Sea

The F/V Emerald Sea is a 34-foot Marco Commercial Fishing vessel built in Seattle. It is 5-star rated, U.S.C.G. inspected and approved. Completely remodeled in 2008, allowing for a spacious deck and comfortable heated cabin, the craft boasts state-of-the-art electronics, including satellite phone. A 15KW generator allows a chest freezer, microwave, and flat-screen TV to provide all of the amenities of home.

The bunks sleep 3-4 persons as needed for overnight adventures. The bathroom has a sink and hot shower.

An extra large fish hold capacity is available for icing fish. We process the catch for you on overnight trips. For your added leisure, a 12-foot Zodiac with a 15hp Honda Outboard can take you to shore for remote beachcombing, tidepooling, or river fishing.

Kodiak Island Fishing Charters

Kodiak has some of the finest fishing anywhere in the universe! Let us take you out to test your luck. Maybe you'll haul in a record-size barn door halibut, or a trophy King salmon! You can also catch rockfish, or cod. Let your captain guide you to some of Kodiak's best-kept fishing spots.

We provide all fishing gear, but you will need to pick up a fishing license, and be sure to dress appropriately for weather conditions (including rain gear & boots). Snacks and drinks are also provided for all of our daily trips.

Information and regulations about licensing can be found at the Alaska Department of Fish & Game website. (Children under 16 years of age are not required to purchase a license.)

As an extra service for our guests, we can arrange for your catch to be cleaned, processed, and shipped for an additional charge.

Kodiak Wildlife Viewing

If fishing is not for you - there are plenty of alternatives! Sailing the Kodiak coast, you can see Alaska from the best perspective anywhere. You might spot puffins racing the boat, kittiwakes nesting, eagles soaring, loons and black oystercatchers dotting the shore. Also commonly seen are spouting and breeching whales, sea lions, sea otters & Dall's porpoise.

Cruising along remote shores, you may catch glimpse of the beautiful Kodiak Bear on the beaches, as well as foxes and Sitka Blacktail deer.
