Naknek River Fly Fishing in King Salmon Alaska

Magnum means the largest trophy Rainbow in Alaska. These fish are thirty inches plus. This trip is for fly fishermen only and catch and release. We only take two rods per trip. You can book for two, four or six days. It starts the last week of March through the first ten days of April. It can be cold.

Similar to Steelhead fishing in Oregon and Washington in November through March, This trip is for the serious fly fishermen wanting to catch Rainbows the size of Steelhead. We are no tougher than you and we fish the early magnum Rainbow all of the time. It's a great trip for those who take fishing to heart and want to catch the biggest Rainbows.

My son Rob has a Rainbow mounted that is thirty-seven inches long, and an estimated 18 pounds. God knows how many pounds as the fish was released and it swam away.

Make sure you have a 8 or 9 rod; sinking line and lot of backing. Then give us a call and book dates.

Yantarni Camp King Salmon Fly Out

This is truly a fisherman's paradise and the fishing is, in fact, incredible. The camp, located in the Alaska Peninsula/Becharof National Wildlife Refuge, is just a short distance from the ocean. Surrounded by coastal mountains and bounded by the waters of the Shelikof Strait, the camp is one of the most remote, rugged, and exclusive locations in Alaska.

Silver Salmon The stream, within walking distance from the camp, is filled with ocean fresh chum, pink and silver salmon, as well as sea-run Dolly Varden, and is so clear it's possible to see and cast to specific fish. You can even see the fish as they enter the river and swim upstream.

We often follow the incoming fish as they travel upstream on the incoming tides. These fish are fresh and big! Chum and Silver salmon range from 10 to 20 pounds. Many people know about the jumping and fighting qualities of silvers, but few are aware of the fighting abilities of the underrated chum salmon. These fish, only a few yards out of the saltwater, are exceptional sportfish. There are also plenty of pink salmon, which are tough and willing fighters, especially on light gear.

The camp, located on the apron of a 6,000 foot gravel runway, consists of heavy duty Weatherport tents with wood floors. There are three 12' by 20' guest tents, a 18' by 24' kitchen/dining tent, a 10' by 12' shower tent, and two other tents for staff. In addition, the camp has a semi-permanent metal building which is used for storage and as a shop. Each tent has a wood burning stove and electricity. The kitchen/dining tent provides ample space for comfortable dining and evening activities. The shower tent and lavatory facilities have an inexhaustible supply of hot water, and the water, which is pumped from a well, is as clean and pure as you will ever find.

The Yantarni camp can accommodate up to ten guests per week. It's staffed by a full time cook, two guides, and a pilot guide. Transportation around the camp and to another nearby stream is provided by three 4-wheel All Terrain Vehicles. A C-185 aircraft on beach tires, is stationed at the camp. This aircraft is used to transport guests, luggage, and freight to and from King Salmon. It's also occasionally used to offer side trips, adding to the diversity of fishing and sightseeing, when conditions permit.

Cold Bay Fishing Lodge

Don't pass up this trip. It's truly an Alaskan experience with a "smorgasbord" of fishing and bird hunting activities. With the comfort of the lodge and the variety of fishing and hunting options, it's the best trip we offer. You will fly commercially from Anchorage to Cold Bay, Alaska where we will meet you at the airport. Then you will have to decide to pick up a fishing rod or a shotgun.

Bring your dog! We have facilities for dogs and there is no better training or test than the Izembek Waterfowl Refuge or field hunting for Alaskan Ptarmigan. If you prefer you can have a full week of fishing or mix it up with bird hunting or other options offered. There are no bad weather days as there are fishing and hunting options from the lodge using the road system making it unnecessary to fly-out each day. We also have overnight out-camps available at key locations.

The scenery is awesome! The area is not developed making it very remote. You are literally at the end of the North American Continent with little or no competition on the fishing streams.

Private plane owners may fly directly into Cold Bay via a fully instrumented 10,400' ILS runway.

Transportation

Guest transportation to the Cold Bay Lodge is provided by PenAir from Anchorage. The route of the 400 mile flight is through a coastal mountain range that is an active volcanic zone, and offers a splendid view of a coastline reminiscent of southern Oregon and northern California. Your aircraft will arrive at the airport and our guests will be met and will be transported to the lodge. A standard fishing week is from Sunday to Sunday, unless other arrangements have been made. Most guests will find it necessary to overnight in Anchorage before continuing on to Cold Bay. Guests will return to Anchorage on the following Sunday.
