Ketchikan Fly Fishing The Hook Up offers visitors an opportunity to fly fish throughout Southeast Alaska for both trout and salmon. Guided fly in fishing trips as well as trips on the Ketchikan road system are available. We provide visitors with quality gear from Sage, Orvis, and Simms. The Hook Up is Ketchikan's only fly shop and is locally owned and family run. Ketchikan Fly Fishing Trips Customer service is our number one priority at the Hook Up. Unlike some of the outfits in town, we are determined to give our fly fishermen the attention they require. Our policy is that we typically do not send a guide out with more than three clients and prefer only two. We offer our fly fishermen the opportunity to fish on the Ketchikan road system or fly out trips to various locations. Even if you do not plan on fishing with our guides we strongly recommend that you contact us before you book a trip in the Ketchikan area. We operate on a USDA National Forest Service permit. We also have some limited private access.
Ketchikan Fly In Fishing
The best opportunity to catch a lot of fish when the salmon are not running is to book a fly out trip. There are literally hundreds of lakes and river systems within a short flight from Ketchikan. The fishing is outstanding. The trout are extremely aggressive and can be caught on everything from a mouse to a prince nymph. There are also a few lakes with Arctic grayling which love to take dry flies. Fly outs are also a good option because they allow the fishermen an opportunity to see more of the Misty Fjords National Park. The scenery is truly amazing. Fly outs are more expensive than our road trips but the cost is not out of reach for most visitors.

Road System Trips are the least expensive at $250.00 per person 4 hours Beyond the initial four hour period it is an additional $40.00 per hour per person. Airplane fly outs Because of the cost of the airplane, fly outs are our most expensive trips. We have destinations that start at $500.00 for the flight. So, for example if one person wanted to go on a four hour fly out trip to one of these closer locations, their cost would be $750.00. If two people wanted to do a four hour fly out trip they could split the $500.00 of flight time and each pay the $250.00 guide fee. Their total would be $500.00 each. Note: Tips are greatly appreciated and the above prices do not include the gratuity for your guide Fly fishing in June is an excellent time to fish for rainbow and cutthroat trout.
Fly out trips are recommended. Accessing remote lakes and streams by float plane provides for a true Alaska experience. The destinations are scenic and packed with trout. Fly fishing for trout requires basic casting ability. The trout take dry flies and nymphs. There are a series of river systems in Southeast Alaska that offer an early run of cohos. They begin to appear in early July. Our guides take fly fishermen to estuaries when targeting these fish. Coho are extremely lively fish and often jump several feet out of the water when hooked. Coho and steelhead are considered a prize fish among fly fishermen. Pink, chum, sockeye, and kings show up in late July and are fishable until late August. Large dolly varden follow the salmon into the river systems, feeding on the eggs, offering fly fishermen a memorable experience. A late run of Coho begins in September and goes through October. The fish that come in during this run are larger than those that come in during the early run. September and October is a good time to travel to Ketchikan for a fly fishing trip. Questions ?
