With an experienced and dedicated staff and guides, incredible salmon runs, and beautiful scenery, your stay at our fishing camp will be truly memorable.
Alaska...Our Last Frontier
"Alaska" is a Native American word meaning "great land." It has been called America's Last Frontier because much of the great land is still unsettled. This fact is very evident when you first arrive in the small village of Goodnews Bay (via private charter non-stop from Anchorage) to begin your adventure at Goodnews River Lodge. Our friendly staff then transports you in a high-speed jet boat to our camp on the Goodnews River - a three-branch river system that courses through the 4.3 million-acre wildlife refuge. For the next eight days (or more depending on your excursion), your environment consists of comfortable wilderness living conditions, almost 24 hours of sunlight, great fishing, and the adventure of a lifetime - shared with friends you've just recently met.
First Class Fishing
Imagine casting your line in one of the most unspoiled watersheds in the world today and having the fish almost fight each other to get to your line! If that's what you want then Goodnews River Lodge is the place for you.
Trout, grayling and all five species of salmon are fished here. What makes the Goodnews River unique in salmon fishing is the fact that the vast majority of the salmon we target are chrome bright and fresh from the Bering Sea, many still with sea lice on them. Each season begins with an incredible return of the largest of all the Salmon, the mighty King. While other Rivers in Alaska have experienced depressed returns for the last few years, the Goodnews has had some of it's strongest runs to date. It is the Ideal river to take a King Salmon on the Fly. Chums and Sockeyes flood the River along with the Kings, providing non-stop action for those who target them. But perhaps the Lodge is best known for it's incredible run of Silver Salmon that start entering the river towards the end of July and continue long after the Lodge closes in September. Silvers are the ideal fly rod salmon, and they will aggressively eat surface flies.
The Goodnews River Lodge is especially proud of our outstanding Rainbow Trout fishing. Rainbows caught on the Goodnews River typically range from 20" to 25" with an occasional 30" or ten-pound "lunker" caught every year! And in addition, each year the Goodnews River hosts a world-class Dolly Varden run. It is not uncommon to land fifty dollies in a day! The average dolly caught measures between 18" and 20". We spend a lot of time maintaining and protecting our fishery. The entire river is restricted to single hook, artificial baits only. We do this to keep the fish biting and make your adventure everything you've dreamed it should be
