Iceland Fishing

Iceland LAX-AAngling Club Lax-a is Iceland's largest sporting outfitter. We have fishing on about 40 salmon, trout and char rivers in Iceland. We offer full service and self-catering lodges, and all service needed; such as guides, hotel bookings, non fishing activities and much more.

Lax-a has been in operation since 1987 and has over 40 salmon and trout rivers in Iceland
We arrange fishing, guiding, lodging, full board, sight seeing and just what ever our clients are seeking for.

Our best salmon rivers are: East and West Ranga, Midfjardara,Blanda and Lax-a Asum. Our best Trout rivers are Varme and Litle.

East & West Ranga River

Iceland FishingUnlike most rivers in Iceland, where the best fishing is over by late August, Range provides productive fishing until the beginning of October. Fishing is on eight beats over a 22 km stretch of river offering a nice variety of waters. Another pleasing fact is the steady growth in numbers of 2 winter salmon in late June and early July which average about 14 lbs. This year East Range produced a large number of big salmon.

For Big Salmon Fishing

Midfjardara River

The wonder of our nature in Iceland is nowhere more apparent than on the banks of this beautiful river. This vast river system spans 790 square kilometers. The Nopse, Austure and Vesture tributaries all feed into the main Midfjardare , providing anglers with a countless variety of waters and landscapes. With over 200 named pools, each rod covers a huge area that the angler cannot help but feel alone with the majesty of nature and its salmon!

Blanda River

Blanda is the longest and most powerful salmon river in Iceland. The journey up difficult falls, steep gradient and heavy flows to reach the spawning grounds have combined a production of exceptionally strong and acrobatic fish.

Lax-a Asum

This unique river, surely one of the best in the world, is renowned for producing the highest average number of salmon per rod/day. Lax-a in Asum is a fly only river for the entire season and voluntary catch and release is widely practiced. It is perfectly suited for light single-handed rods, floating lines and very small flies. Asums salmon will rise enthusiastically to a well presented riffling hitch. The fishing there is so good that a quota was instituted limiting the catch to 20 salmon per rod per day. Even though the river is now fly fishing only, anglers are still catching double-digit numbers daily during the peak season.

For Trout Fishing

Varma River

Iceland trout FishingWe've pursued this property for years and are delighted to have finally secured the lease on the River Varma, one of the top sea trout rivers in Iceland. Varma is a 6-rod river blessed with a very long season or from 1st April until mid October. By the end of May, good runs of sea trout are coming into Varma. Prime time is from the end of June until the end of the season mid October. Good numbers of hard fighting Artic Char, as well as the occasional salmon, are also taken on the Varma river.

Litle River

Litle, meaning small river which certainly describes the river well, still holds one of Iceland's strongest sea-run brown trout stocks, as well as some sea-run char and few salmon. This beautiful, fresh water river, trickles through the lava from Skjlftavatn lake which was formed in the eruption of Krafla in 1979.

Guides

One of the most important components of any fishing trip is of course, the guide.
They are both your advisors and companions for the whole week. At Lax-a, we pride ourselves in the high calibre of our professional guides. We invest a lot of time and effort in guide training. All of them have great experience in fly fishing, casting instruction and fly tying. And most importantly, they know their river and are dedicated to your success. Whether you are fishing with the legendary Siggi Fjeldsted or the young and keen Danni, be assured all our guides are experienced and capable professionals who will work as hard as they possibly can to ensure your successful and enjoyable fishing trip.

Fishing & Casting Instructions

New to salmon fishing? Want to learn how to "read the water?" or "cover the water?" Want to know more about flies, fly tying, knots, or making your own leaders? Having problems casting? Want to learn spey casting or Swedish underhand casting?
No problem. Individualized instruction is an excellent way to get started, to brush up on your skills, or to learn new techniques that will help you catch fish. Club Lax-a provides excellent fishing and casting instructions. Most instructions are conducted right on the riverbank -- where there is a good chance of catching salmon!

Instructors are available for individual tuition. Please inquire.
